An adolescent involved in a fatal school shooting near Bangkok last year had an air gun seized by authorities, as revealed by police. The 14-year-old, who stands accused of the attack, had a history of consuming violent online content and using social media to learn firearm handling techniques.
The tragic incident unfolded with the teenager allegedly murdering his grandparents at home before proceeding to shoot six individuals at his school, ultimately ending his own life. The death toll climbed to at least nine, with a 12-year-old passing away in the hospital. The suspect’s mother has expressed her anguish over the events.
Deputy Commissioner Atthapol Anusit of Provincial Police Region 1 shared that the culprit had demonstrated an interest in firearms for approximately one to two years based on witness accounts. Alongside a firearm, investigators discovered a knife in the boy’s possession, as well as spent cartridge cases and a computer at the crime scenes.
Further scrutiny revealed that the teenager had viewed violent content on social media, although no evidence linked him to firearm practice. Plans for enhanced school safety measures include mental health assessments, emergency response drills, anti-bullying initiatives, and stricter security protocols to prevent unauthorized items from entering school premises.
