A 17-year-old teenager from Brockville, Ontario, faces charges of murdering a mother and her two teenage daughters, in what local authorities describe as a case of intimate partner violence. The Brockville Police were called to a residence on Cartier Court around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, where they discovered the bodies of a 49-year-old woman and her daughters, aged 17 and 15, as revealed by Inspector Darryl Boyd during a press briefing on Friday afternoon. Boyd mentioned that a knife is believed to have been used in the tragic incident.
Following a lead, officers located the teenager at a different location on the outskirts of the city and took him into custody. The teenager was in a relationship with one of the daughters, indicating the involvement of intimate partner violence, according to Boyd, who also referred to the killings as femicide.
The teenager, whose identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, appeared in court on Friday and has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder. Additionally, he faces charges for assaulting a police officer during his arrest, although Boyd confirmed that no lasting injuries occurred during the altercation.
While investigations into the full circumstances and motive behind the deaths are ongoing, Boyd assured the community that there is no further risk to the public. The tragedy has deeply affected the close-knit community of Brockville, with flags at city facilities lowered in remembrance. Chief Mark Noonan described the incident as an unimaginable tragedy, emphasizing the need for honesty in acknowledging the severity of the situation.

The teenager remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 28.
