Grab your favorite summer beverage and prepare to enjoy the Canadian version of the popular reality show, “Summer House,” as it moves from the Hamptons to Ontario’s beautiful cottage country.
Hayu, the reality streaming service from NBCUniversal, together with Lark Productions based in British Columbia, have officially started filming “Summer House Canada” in the picturesque Muskoka region. This marks the first international adaptation of the hit reality series.
Hendrik McDermott, NBCUniversal’s managing director of international DTC, expressed excitement about Muskoka being the ideal backdrop for “Summer House Canada,” setting the stage for the show’s debut on the international stage.
Similar to its American counterpart, “Summer House Canada” will showcase a group of friends spending weekends at a shared cottage, where dynamics, relationships, and drama unfold amidst the summer setting.
Erin Haskett, president and executive producer at Lark Productions, highlighted the show’s global appeal, known for its genuine friendships, vibrant personalities, and unforgettable moments created during a shared summer experience.
Canada has seen a rise in reality TV adaptations, with series like “Canada Shore” filming its second season in Kelowna, B.C., and the anticipated return of “Big Brother Canada” on CTV and Crave.
Following the U.S. version’s recent Emmy nomination for best unstructured reality program after ten seasons, the Canadian adaptation gears up for its own ten-part series, exclusively available for streaming on Hayu. Casting details will be revealed in the upcoming months, with the show scheduled to debut in 2027.
