“Stolen Peacocks Pete and Hilda Safely Recovered”

A duo of stolen peacocks, Pete and Hilda, have been safely recovered after being taken from a hotel parking lot in central Alberta overnight. The incident occurred in Stony Plain, Alberta, where the peafowl were being transported in a pickup truck that was stolen along with a livestock trailer carrying a horse named Spirit and a donkey named Badonkadonk.

While the larger animals were quickly located dumped along a rural road a few kilometers away, Pete and Hilda remained missing for days until they were found by a family near Duffield, Alberta, approximately 65 kilometers from Edmonton. Dawn Condon, the owner, expressed relief and joy upon their safe return despite the birds showing signs of their ordeal.

Jodey Way and her partner, who were transporting the birds for Condon, were reunited with the peacock and peahen, as they were found still inside their crate. The family that discovered them promptly contacted Condon, leading to a late-night rendezvous in Smokey Lake, Alberta, for the birds’ return.

Describing the peacocks as cherished pets and protectors of her flock, Way explained that her aunt had adopted them two years ago for security purposes. The investigation into the theft is ongoing, with RCMP seeking information on the suspect and the stolen white 2005 Ford F350 truck. Despite the challenges faced, Way remains hopeful for justice and the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
