Christian Kirsch, the goaltender bound for Quinnipiac University and drafted by San Jose, made 38 saves to secure the win, following a 5-0 victory against host Kelowna in their first game. Kitchener will wrap up the round-robin phase by facing Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League champions, Chicoutimi, on Tuesday.
In the upcoming round-robin game, the Western Hockey League champions, Everett, will square off against Kelowna on Wednesday. Reid, a standout defenseman drafted 21st overall by Nashville last year, initiated the scoring in the first period and paved the way for goals by Christian Humphreys, Gabriel Chiarot, and Jack Pridham in the second period, building a commanding 5-2 lead after Everett managed to tie the game at 2.
Pridham also scored on a power-play in the first period, while Cameron Arquette netted a goal in the third period. Rylan Gould and Matias Vanhanen scored for Everett, with Anders Miller making 22 saves. The Silvertips had previously defeated Chicoutimi 5-3.
The Seattle-based team is aiming to become the fourth U.S. franchise to win the Memorial Cup, following the Portland Winterhawks in 1983 and 1998, Spokane Chiefs in 1991 and 2008, and Saginaw Spirit in 2024. Notably, Kitchener’s Andrew MacNiel engaged in a fight with Jaxsin Vaughan during the second period of the game.
