Canada emerged victorious in a thrilling five-set match against the United States during the Under-19 NORCECA Men’s Continental Volleyball Championship held in Burnaby, B.C. The Canadian team pushed the game to a decisive fifth set and secured a 3-2 victory (25-23, 21-25, 23-25, 25-23, 17-15) in front of an enthusiastic crowd at Simon Fraser University’s West Gym.
Hendrix Lepp, the captain and outside hitter from Vancouver, led the charge for Canada, amassing 29 points (25 attack points, two blocks, two aces) and earning the title of tournament MVP. On the American side, Bryce Thistlethwaite contributed 26 points to his team’s effort.
Reflecting on the intense match, Canada’s head coach Adam Schriemer praised the teams’ competitive spirit and resilience, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and determination throughout the game. He highlighted Lepp’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament, commending his leadership both on and off the court.
Earlier in the day, Mexico secured the bronze medal by defeating Costa Rica with a convincing 3-0 victory (25-8, 25-12, 25-15). All four teams involved in the medal matches have secured qualification for the 2027 FIVB men’s U19 world championship.
