Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette has taken legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a scheme to blackmail her into signing a long-term contract by threatening to falsely incriminate her in drug trafficking. Morissette filed a lawsuit in California, alleging that Keren Urinov attempted to coerce her into hiring her as a tour director for 15 years and providing significant compensation, under the threat of reporting her to British authorities for drug-related charges.
Urinov, previously associated with Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s world tour in 2025. An incident at an airport during a trip from the U.K. to Spain led to Urinov’s arrest after a bag she claimed ownership of was flagged by authorities for containing marijuana and a non-opioid animal tranquilizer. Despite displaying a medical marijuana license, Urinov was released but faced further questioning the next day.
The lawsuit states that Urinov later sent threatening letters to Morissette, demanding a 15-year contract with substantial compensation and immigration assistance for working in the U.S. The legal action also highlights instances where Morissette claims Urinov mismanaged the tour, including costly errors and undisclosed criminal history related to drug smuggling.
Morissette expressed reluctance in resorting to legal measures but emphasized her unwillingness to succumb to blackmail tactics. The singer is pursuing a jury trial in response to the alleged extortion and misconduct by Urinov. Efforts to reach Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment have so far been unsuccessful.
