“Former Skater Ashley Foy Reveals Identity in Sexual Assault Case”

The woman who accused Canadian-Danish figure skater Nikolaj Sorensen of sexual assault has revealed her identity in a bid to enhance safety within the sport. Ashley Foy, a former American figure skater and current coach, came forward as the accuser in an interview conducted by Lori Ward, a former CBC investigative journalist who now manages the Substack “Broken Ice.”

Expressing her intentions, Foy stated, “I hope coming forward helps create a safer environment in figure skating. Survivors should not have to bear the burden of their assaults alone, and they deserve protection.” She added, “My hope is my story helps even just one person understand they matter and are believed. I also want to close this chapter of my life and focus on helping other survivors with my charity ‘Just Ice, No Abuse.'”

Foy alleged that Sorensen sexually assaulted her in Hartford, Conn., in 2012. The accusation was initially reported by USA Today in January 2024. Sorensen received a six-year suspension from skating in October 2024 following an investigation by the now-defunct Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner. However, the ban was overturned by an arbitrator with the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada in June 2025 on jurisdictional grounds, with the case currently under appeal.

Despite the allegations, no criminal charges have been filed against Sorensen, who has denied the claims. His lawyer, Dylan Jones, emphasized, “Our client denies the allegations and maintains his innocence,” citing that the allegations have not been legally proven.

In an emotional video interview with Ward, Foy shared that the case had significantly impacted her life. She previously chose to remain anonymous due to concerns about potential repercussions but decided to reveal her identity after witnessing developments in the sport. Foy also mentioned that public support for Sorensen from Olympic champions influenced her decision.

Fournier Beaudry, Sorensen’s girlfriend and former skating partner, addressed the allegation in the Netflix docuseries “Glitter & Gold: Ice Dancing,” expressing the personal toll the situation took on her integrity. Despite challenges, Foy emphasized the importance of survivors being heard and supported, highlighting her commitment to assisting others through her charity initiative.

Foy, a decorated figure skater and coach, is actively fundraising for “Just Ice, No Abuse,” aiming to provide legal support and assistance to skaters reporting sexual assault. She stressed the need for improved support systems for survivors and encouraged a culture of openness and accountability within the sport.
