“Tony Awards Nominations Revealed: ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘Schmigadoon!’ Lead the Pack

“The Lost Boys” and “Schmigadoon!” garnered 12 Tony Award nominations each on Tuesday, with 96-year-old June Squibb becoming the oldest Tony-nominated actor and Danny Burstein becoming the most-nominated male actor in Tony history. Following closely were the revival of “Ragtime” with 11 nominations and “Death of a Salesman” with nine nods, starring Nathan Lane.

A total of 24 shows received at least one nomination across the 26 Tony categories, including “Cats: The Jellicle Ball,” which reimagines the classic feline musical, and a revival of “Chess,” depicting a Cold War love triangle among chess grand masters. The best new musical contenders include “Titanique,” “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York),” alongside “The Lost Boys” and “Schmigadoon!”

In the best new play category, nominees include “Giant,” “Liberation,” “The Balusters,” and “Little Bear Ridge Road.” June Squibb, nominated for “Marjorie Prime,” now holds the title of the oldest Tony-nominated actor, surpassing Lois Smith’s record. Danny Burstein secured his place as the most-nominated male actor in Tony history with nine nods.

Daniel Radcliffe received a nomination for “Every Brilliant Thing,” a solo performance exploring depression remedies. The best play revival category features acclaimed works such as “Every Brilliant Thing,” “Death of a Salesman,” “Oedipus,” “Becky Shaw,” and “Fallen Angels.”

John Lithgow and Rose Byrne received acting nominations, with Lithgow in contention for his third Tony award against other leading actors in a play. The Tony Awards ceremony is set for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall, hosted by Pink and broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+.

Last year’s show hosted by Cynthia Erivo attracted 4.85 million viewers, marking the largest broadcast audience in six years.
