On April 15, National Canadian Film Day will be celebrated across the country, paying tribute to Canadian cinema and honoring the life and contributions of Graham Greene, a renowned actor from the Six Nations community who passed away last year at the age of 73.
Various special events are planned as part of the nationwide celebration, including film screenings to commemorate Greene’s work. One of the highlights will be the showing of his movie “Clearcut” (1991) at the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford, Ontario. The screening, scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. on April 15, will be attended by members of Greene’s family and the Six Nations community. Additionally, a short documentary film titled “Graham Greene: I’m Just Me” by Tara Johns will also be screened at the event.
In addition to the Brantford screening, “Clearcut” and Greene’s acclaimed film “Seeds” will be showcased in Toronto, Ottawa, and Halifax. Throughout his illustrious career spanning almost five decades, Greene portrayed numerous characters on both stage and screen, appearing in a wide range of television shows and major motion pictures.
Recognized for his outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry, Greene was honored with prestigious awards such as the Order of Canada, an Academy Award nomination for his role in “Dances with Wolves,” the Earle Grey lifetime achievement award for television acting, and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement in 2025.
