“Canada and France Strengthen Defense Collaboration”

Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Canada and France will enhance their defense and industrial collaboration through a new general security of information agreement. The agreement aims to streamline the sharing of classified intelligence pertaining to defense, space, artificial intelligence, and aerospace industries.

Carney made this announcement during a joint statement with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palais de l’Élysée in Paris. Macron emphasized that discussions between him and Carney in their private meeting will cover topics such as trade, defense, and security. He also praised Canada as a valuable ally to both Europe and France.

This meeting precedes the upcoming G7 summit and may be one of the final engagements between the two leaders, as Macron’s second term in office is nearing its end next spring. As France hosts this year’s summit, the agenda includes addressing significant geopolitical issues, G7’s support for Ukraine, and enhancing online child protection measures.
