Health Canada has issued a recall for various climbing harnesses, including models designed for children, due to defective buckles and attachments that pose fall risks. The affected Petzl harnesses, produced in Romania and Malaysia, have been distributed in Canada over the past few years, according to Health Canada’s recent recall notifications.
One of the recalls involves Petzl Astro and Canyon Guide Harnesses, where the pin securing the metal D-ring may disengage, leading to the opening of the attachment point and creating a fall hazard that could potentially cause severe harm or fatality. The Canyon Guide harnesses were available for purchase from March 2020 to October 2023, while the Astro harnesses were sold between March 2018 and October 2023.
Moreover, Health Canada has highlighted the recall of Petzl Simba Park, Simba Climbing, Simba Park, Swan Easyfit Steel, and Swan Easyfit Stainless harnesses. Among these, the two Simba harnesses are specifically designed for children – one for climbing and the other for use in adventure parks. These models are at risk due to a missing rivet in the buckle, which could lead to the buckle opening unexpectedly, posing a fall hazard with potential serious consequences. The affected products were distributed from July 2021 to November 2025.
Health Canada has not received any reports of incidents or injuries related to these recalls in either Canada or the United States. Consumers are advised to cease using the harnesses immediately, as per the agency’s recommendation.
