“Toronto Mother Charged with Murder of Toddler”

The Toronto police have charged a 37-year-old woman with first-degree murder following the death of her 22-month-old daughter in the hospital on Wednesday. The tragic incident unfolded when emergency services responded to a residence near Midland Avenue and Steeles Avenue E. in Scarborough around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, responders discovered the toddler unresponsive and immediately administered life-saving measures. The child was revived and rushed to the hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries the following day. The girl’s father, who was not present during the incident, alerted authorities by calling 911. Upon his return, he found police already at the scene.

The mother was taken into custody at the home and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday morning. Detective-Sergeant Henri Marsman of the police’s homicide unit refrained from discussing potential motives, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing. He acknowledged the emotional toll on the first responders and all personnel involved in the case.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the child’s death, pending an autopsy, and are looking into the background of the accused woman. Marsman confirmed that the woman’s other child was not present during the incident and is safe. Residents in the vicinity can expect heightened police presence as the investigation progresses.
