Notably, Canada’s radar technology lags 15 years behind that of the United States, prompting some, like farmer Lee Stanley from Carievale, Sask., to rely on American radar systems for weather forecasting.

Stanley underscores the significance of accurate weather forecasts for farmers, whose livelihoods are directly impacted by weather conditions. While acknowledging ECCC’s efforts in issuing advance warnings, Stanley stresses the need for increased investment in forecasting technologies by the Canadian and Saskatchewan governments.

To address concerns over radar research cuts, Sills initiated a letter-writing campaign urging the public to advocate for the reversal of these decisions. The campaign has garnered significant support, with thousands of letters sent to elected officials within a short period.
