The Toronto Rock emerged victorious in the National Lacrosse League championship by defeating the Halifax Thunderbirds 12-7 at Scotiabank Centre. Owen Hiltz and Chris Boushy both contributed three goals and an assist, with Mark Matthews adding a goal and three assists. Goalkeeper Nick Rose stood out with 34 saves during the game.
Having also won the series opener 13-11 on Friday, Toronto clinched their first championship title since 2011. This victory marked their seventh overall championship, putting them on par with the Buffalo Bandits, who have also secured seven titles, including the recent ones in 2023, 2024, and last year.
In a game that saw Toronto leading 8-6 at halftime and 9-7 going into the final quarter, goals were also scored by Sam English, Hugh Kelleher, Lucas Hugal, C.J. Kirst, and Latrell Harris for the Rock. On the Thunderbirds’ side, Clarke Petterson led with three goals and an assist, while Mike Robinson, Randy Staats, Cody Jamieson, and Brendan Bomberry added singles. Goalkeeper Warren Hill made 40 saves for the Thunderbirds.
Sam English of the Rock was honored as the playoff MVP for his outstanding performance throughout the series.
