Macklin Celebrini netted two goals as Canada dominated Italy with a 6-0 victory in the world hockey championship. Dylan Holloway, Fraser Minten, Evan Bouchard, and Ryan O’Reilly also found the back of the net. Cam Talbot, in goal for Canada, secured a shutout with 19 saves.
The 19-year-old captain, Celebrini, not only scored twice but also contributed an assist. Bouchard praised Celebrini’s skills, highlighting his leadership and performance, drawing comparisons to his success at the Olympics.
Holloway and Minten scored within 47 seconds of each other in the first period. Celebrini added another goal before scoring a second in the second period. Bouchard and O’Reilly also scored in the game.
Canadian head coach Misha Donskov commended the team’s effort and execution of game plans. With two wins in Group B after defeating Sweden, Canada is set to face Denmark next.
Italy made a return to the top division for the first time since 2022. In other results, Finland secured a 4-1 win over Hungary, while Switzerland maintained a perfect record by defeating Latvia 4-1. Slovenia pulled off a surprise victory over the Czech Republic, and Austria defeated Britain 5-2.
