Authorities rescued 57 young cats and eight adult felines while also pressing charges against a 38-year-old individual for 134 counts related to inflicting unnecessary harm on animals following a probe into suspected animal mistreatment.
The Peel Regional Police, in a recent statement, disclosed that Animal Welfare Services in Peel had alerted them on April 1 about multiple occurrences where kittens were reportedly being sold under distressing circumstances, resulting in fatalities due to injuries upon reaching their new residences.
Law enforcement officers executed a search warrant in collaboration with Animal Welfare Services on April 23, culminating in the apprehension of a 38-year-old man from Mississauga. Subsequently, the rescued kittens and cats were transferred to an animal rescue facility.
The accused individual is presently confronting 134 charges linked to the mistreatment of animals and is being detained pending a bail hearing.
The Peel police confirmed that the rescued animals are under the supervision of an animal shelter in Mississauga, asserting that no other animals are unaccounted for.
