A grand jury in Los Angeles County is investigating singer D4vd in connection with the death of a 14-year-old girl whose body was discovered in an abandoned Tesla registered to him. The court documents show that prosecutors are focusing on the 20-year-old alt-pop singer, born in Houston as David Burke, through grand jury subpoenas issued on Jan. 15, requesting testimony from three of his family members.
The details, which were previously sealed in California, were revealed after an appeal of the subpoenas in Texas by the singer’s mother, father, and brother. According to the documents, the investigation suggests that the “target” may have committed a crime, specifically one count of murder, under California law.
The Tesla, a 2023 Model Y, was reportedly registered in D4vd’s name at the residence of his family members who were subpoenaed. While authorities have not officially named D4vd as a suspect, the body of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who went missing at the age of 13 from Lake Elsinore, was found in the vehicle a day after what would have been her 15th birthday.
Upon investigating the Tesla at a tow yard, police discovered a cadaver bag containing decomposed remains. The documents describe the disturbing scene of a decomposed head and torso inside the bag, with additional dismembered body parts found in a second bag.
Despite the ongoing investigation, representatives for D4vd have not provided any comments, and the District Attorney’s Office has declined to make any statements. A judge in Texas has ordered the singer’s family members to comply with the subpoenas and testify in California.
The Tesla, found abandoned in an upscale Hollywood Hills neighborhood, led to the cancellation of D4vd’s shows following the connection to the case becoming public. The Medical Examiner’s Office indicated that Rivas Hernandez had been deceased for a significant period before being discovered, and the cause of death remains undisclosed.
D4vd, known for his music blending indie rock, R&B, and lo-fi pop, had gained popularity among Gen Z fans. His career took off after a TikTok hit in 2022, leading to record deals and the release of several successful EPs. The discovery of the body prompted the cancellation of the singer’s tours and performances, impacting his music career significantly.
