“Regina to Host 2027 Grey Cup for Second Time”

The Grey Cup will make a return to Regina in 2027, marking the second time in five years that the CFL final will be hosted in the capital city and home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

During the announcement on Monday, Premier Scott Moe expressed excitement about showcasing the strong fan base and community pride for the Saskatchewan football team in 2027.

Saskatchewan Roughriders president Craig Reynolds attributed the successful bid for the 2027 Grey Cup to the support received from the City of Regina and the province, emphasizing that Saskatchewan is known for hosting exceptional Grey Cup events.

Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski’s spokesperson mentioned that the City of Regina has allocated $1.5 million for the Grey Cup, including funding for transit services and police support, to ensure a welcoming experience for all attendees.

The 2027 Grey Cup is expected to be a memorable event, with Bachynski promising that both long-time fans and newcomers will feel like part of the family.

The upcoming Grey Cup game, scheduled for November 7, 2027, will be the fifth championship held in Regina and the second at the modern Mosaic Stadium. The Roughriders have previously hosted the championship four times, with the most recent being in 2022.

With high expectations surrounding the Roughriders hosting the Grey Cup in their hometown, anticipation is building for the 2027 event following the team’s historic victory in 2013.

CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston commended the collaborative efforts of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the province, the City of Regina, and local hotel operators in securing the bid for the 2027 Grey Cup, highlighting the strong football culture in Saskatchewan.

Notably, the 2027 Grey Cup festival will be held entirely indoors for the first time, including the street festival, offering attendees a comfortable experience without the need for heavy winter clothing.

While the details of other bid packages were not disclosed, Johnston praised Saskatchewan’s bid as “truly outstanding” and emphasized the collective effort that made it successful.
