“Netflix Canada to Adapt Carley Fortune’s ‘This Summer Will Be Different’ into Series”

Netflix Canada has revealed plans to adapt another one of Carley Fortune’s popular romance novels into a 10-episode series. The upcoming series will be based on Fortune’s third book, titled “This Summer Will Be Different,” which follows the story of Lucy and Felix’s unexpected encounter during a summer on Prince Edward Island. Despite the strong chemistry between them, Lucy faces a dilemma as Felix happens to be her best friend Bridget’s younger brother. As the plot unfolds, Lucy grapples with her feelings for Felix while trying to navigate the complexities of their relationship.

The television adaptation of the novel will be filmed in Toronto and on Prince Edward Island, staying true to the original book’s settings. Carley Fortune, a Toronto-based writer and journalist, expressed her excitement about bringing the love story to life on screen, drawing inspiration from her personal experiences on the picturesque island. She shared her fond memories of Prince Edward Island, emphasizing the island’s beauty, warm community, and enduring friendships as key elements that influenced her storytelling in “This Summer Will Be Different.”

Aside from her third novel, Fortune has written other successful books such as “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.” Her upcoming novel, “Our Perfect Storm,” is set to be published on May 5. Notably, “Every Summer After” is currently in production for a television series titled “Every Year After” on Amazon Prime Video, while “Meet Me At the Lake” has been optioned for a film adaptation by Netflix and Archewell Productions, owned by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Furthermore, “Meet Me At the Lake” made history as the first romance novel to be featured in Canada Reads, championed in 2024 by Mirian Njoh. The novel’s success has paved the way for more recognition and interest in romance literature within the literary community.
