“Keurig Offers $1.85M Settlement in Canada for Misleading Recycling Claims”

Coffee prices have been steadily rising, making the daily cup of joe an expensive indulgence. However, a proposed $1.85-million settlement with Keurig, a major coffee pod company, may offer some relief to Canadian consumers.

Recently, a notice was issued stating that individuals who purchased Keurig pods, machines, or brewing systems in Canada from June 8, 2016, onwards might be eligible for compensation as part of a lawsuit settlement. The lawsuit alleged that Keurig misrepresented the recyclability of its pods, leading to misleading claims about their environmental impact.

Keurig Canada acknowledged the concerns raised by the Competition Bureau regarding the recycling claims and has committed to making changes to its packaging, advertisements, and products. Additionally, the company will pay an administrative penalty and donate to an environmental charity.

To participate in the settlement, consumers need to submit a claim form within the specified timeline. Proof of purchase is required for brewers, while pod claims can be made without receipts, albeit with lower compensation. The settlement amount, subject to court approval in December, will be distributed among eligible claimants after deductions.

If approved, the settlement will provide financial restitution to affected consumers, offering a chance to recoup some of the costs associated with purchasing Keurig products. Potential claimants are advised to stay informed about the approval process and submit their claims promptly to benefit from the settlement.
