“Jonathan David Named CONCACAF Men’s Player of the Year”

Canadian striker Jonathan David has secured the title of CONCACAF men’s player of the year for the 2024-25 season. Recognized for his exceptional performance both at club and national levels, the 25-year-old Juventus player is only the second Canadian male to achieve this honor, following in the footsteps of two-time winner Alphonso Davies.

David, a two-time recipient of the Canada Soccer player of the year award in 2019 and 2024, had previously been nominated for the CONCACAF accolade in 2021, 2022, and 2023-24. Meanwhile, Haiti’s Melchie Dumornay, who plays for OL Lyonnes in France, clinched the CONCACAF women’s player of the year award for the second consecutive year.

The winners for the period spanning from August 2024 to July 2025 were determined through a vote by CONCACAF member association players, coaches, as well as media and fans, from a pool of six nominees in each category. David holds the record as Canada’s all-time leading men’s scorer with 37 goals in 67 appearances.

CONCACAF president Victor Montagliani, who also serves as FIFA vice-president, extended congratulations to Jonathan and Melchie for their outstanding achievements during the past season, highlighting their remarkable performances at both international and club levels.

In club competitions, David showcased his prowess by netting seven Champions League goals for Lille, the highest tally by any CONCACAF player in a single edition of the tournament in this century. He also secured the position of Lille’s all-time top scorer in European competitions before embarking on a move to Juventus in July.

Although David has had a slower start in finding the net for Juventus, with one goal and one assist in 13 appearances, his impact remains significant. Other notable men’s nominees included Edson Alvarez (Mexico), Raul Jimenez (Mexico), Angel Sepulveda (Mexico), Malik Tillman (USA), and Manfred Ugalde (Costa Rica).

Dumornay’s consecutive win in the CONCACAF women’s player of the year category places her in the ranks of the elite, alongside Alex Morgan, as only the second woman to achieve this feat more than once. Her exceptional contributions were further recognized by being named the UEFA Women’s Champions League young player of the season and securing a spot in the competition’s Best XI for her stellar performance.

Additionally, Jimenez’s free-kick goal against Canada in the CONCACAF Nations League Finals was voted as the goal of the year by fans. This marked another impressive achievement in a year filled with remarkable performances across the CONCACAF region.
