Hockey Canada Reveals Team Jerseys for Milan-Cortina Winter Games
Hockey Canada has introduced the official jerseys for the upcoming Milan-Cortina Winter Games, showcasing designs for the men’s, women’s, and Para teams. Athletes from Canada’s women’s, men’s, and para hockey squads will have a choice between two uniform styles: a white jersey featuring a red maple leaf and a red jersey with a black maple leaf.
The maple leaf crests on the jerseys exhibit a multi-tone design resembling a diamond, symbolizing the athletes’ resilience under immense pressure, as stated by Hockey Canada. CEO Katherine Henderson emphasized that the jerseys embody the essence of Canadian hockey and the fervor of fans supporting the athletes.
During the unveiling, Henderson expressed excitement for the upcoming Olympics and Paralympics, underscoring the significance of the jerseys in representing all Canadians globally. The CEO highlighted the alignment of the jerseys with Canadian hockey culture and the enthusiasm of fans, anticipating the teams and supporters to wear them proudly in pursuit of gold medals in Italy.
The Nike-designed jerseys made their debut at the Rivalry Series opener between Canada and the U.S., symbolizing more than just apparel but also reflecting the pride, passion, and heritage of Canada’s Olympic hockey legacy, according to David Shoemaker, the chief executive officer and secretary general of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
The Canadian women’s team will commence their gold medal defense on Feb. 5, closely preceding the opening ceremony, while the men’s team, featuring NHL players for the first time since the 2014 Sochi Games, will start their campaign on Feb. 12. The Para hockey tournament will kick off on March 6, marking a significant moment in the history of the sport.
