“Global Efforts Underway to Evacuate Citizens from Middle East”

Amid the escalating conflict between the U.S., Israel, and Iran in the Middle East, several Western nations are mobilizing to evacuate their citizens from the region. The retaliatory actions by Iran, Israel’s extension of hostilities into Lebanon, and the closure of airspace and airports have complicated the evacuation efforts advised by various governments.

In response to the crisis in the Middle East, countries are taking different measures to assist their citizens:

### United States
The U.S., a key player in the conflict, is facing challenges in ensuring the safety of its citizens. Criticism arose over the lack of evacuation plans after advising Americans to leave multiple Middle Eastern countries without providing transportation options. The U.S. Embassy in Israel recommended taking a bus to Egypt for departure due to limited exit possibilities.

At the White House, President Donald Trump cited the swift nature of events for the absence of an evacuation strategy, despite the gradual military buildup leading to the conflict. Subsequently, U.S. officials have been working to secure military aircraft and charter flights to facilitate the evacuation of American citizens from the Middle East.

### Canada
Global Affairs Canada reported that over 97,000 Canadian citizens and permanent residents are registered in the Middle East, with sizable populations in the UAE and Lebanon. While limited in its ability to assist with departures, the agency advised citizens to prepare independent contingency plans. However, a few seats have been secured on a commercial flight from Beirut to Istanbul for Canadians on a first-come, first-served basis.

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring Canadians’ safety in the region. She mentioned seeking permission from Oman to utilize its airspace for potential evacuation operations if needed.

### France
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that nearly 400,000 French nationals are present in the Middle East and announced repatriation efforts for those wishing to return, prioritizing the most vulnerable. The initial repatriation flights were scheduled to arrive in Paris on Tuesday night.

### U.K.
British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper informed the House of Commons that over 130,000 British citizens have registered with the government in the Middle East. Plans are underway for a charter flight departing from Oman to evacuate vulnerable British nationals promptly.

The evacuation initiatives by these nations aim to ensure the safety and well-being of their citizens amidst the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
