Catherine O’Hara Honored with Best Comedy Actress Award

Catherine O’Hara was posthumously honored with the Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series award at the recent Actor Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. The renowned Canadian comedic actress passed away on January 30 at 71 years old due to a blood clot in her lung, a condition she had kept private alongside her battle with rectal cancer.

O’Hara secured the accolade for her portrayal of Patty Leigh, a seasoned former studio executive in the satirical Apple TV comedy series “The Studio.” Nominated alongside O’Hara were a group of distinguished actors including Jenna Ortega for “Wednesday,” Jean Smart for “Hacks,” Kristen Wiig for “Palm Royale,” and Kathryn Hahn for her role in “The Studio.”

The audience at the Shine Auditorium erupted in cheers and gave O’Hara a standing ovation when she was announced as the winner. Co-creator of “The Studio,” Seth Rogen, accepted the award on her behalf, praising O’Hara’s generosity, kindness, and talent. He shared an anecdote about O’Hara’s dedication to perfecting scenes, emphasizing her ability to enhance not just her character but the overall quality of the show.

Apart from O’Hara’s victory, “The Studio” dominated the comedy categories at the event, securing wins for Best Comedy Series and Best Actor for Seth Rogen’s performance. O’Hara’s illustrious career spanned various comedic roles, from her early days on SCTV to iconic films such as “Home Alone” and “Beetlejuice,” culminating in her unforgettable portrayal of Moira Rose in “Schitt’s Creek.” Prior to her passing, O’Hara had previously won two Actor Awards for her work on “Schitt’s Creek,” further solidifying her legacy in the entertainment industry.
