Laurence Fournier Beaudry revealed her acquisition of French citizenship on the weekend, enabling the 33-year-old Canadian-born skater to potentially represent France at the upcoming Milan-Cortina Olympics alongside her partner, Guillaume Cizeron. Earlier this year, Olympic ice dance champion Cizeron confirmed his partnership with Fournier Beaudry after her previous partner, Nikolaj Sorensen, was banned for six years for “sexual maltreatment.”
In a social media post on Instagram, Fournier Beaudry expressed her excitement, stating, “It’s official: I’m now French.” She also conveyed her immense joy and gratitude to everyone who has supported her throughout her journey.
It is not uncommon for skaters in ice dance and pairs figure skating to switch nationalities due to the limited availability of partners. Cizeron, aged 30, along with Gabriella Papadakis, secured the gold medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and clinched five world titles before retiring in December 2024. Cizeron returned to competition earlier this year alongside Fournier Beaudry, triumphing at the Grand Prix de France last month.
