“Cadmus Delorme’s Beaded Chancellor Stole Marks Special Induction”

Cadmus Delorme is all set to meet the University of Regina graduates as they walk across the stage to embrace their futures. This significant moment will also mark his official induction as the university’s 10th chancellor. A special addition for this occasion is a beaded chancellor stole that Delorme will wear, symbolizing a meaningful connection. Inspired by the beaded stole worn by the late Murray Sinclair and following traditions of other universities, this ceremonial sash is an elaborate accessory accompanying the chancellor’s robe, signifying their official position.

Expressing his pride, Delorme mentioned, “When I became the chancellor, I wanted to bring Cadmus, I wanted to bring the First Nation man, the Cree/Saulteaux man, myself and my background.” Delorme aims to not only represent the University of Regina but also the current 90,000 students, alumni, and future students. Emphasizing the importance of embracing one’s identity, he hopes to set a norm where individuals can proudly showcase their heritage in such settings.

To personalize the stole, Delorme turned to his close friend Thomas Benjoe, CEO of Flowing River Capital, whom he regards as a brother. Benjoe, a skilled beader since childhood, incorporated significant elements from Delorme’s life journey into the stole, weaving a narrative within the beadwork. The floral patterns on the stole hold deep symbolism, representing various aspects of Delorme’s life, including family members, friends, and academic achievements.

Delorme expressed his satisfaction with the stole, appreciating the effort and dedication Benjoe put into creating a piece that encapsulates the essence of his life. Delorme emphasized the strong bond he shares with Benjoe, highlighting their close relationship and mutual support. Delorme believes that the stole, a symbol of their collaboration, will remain a cherished part of the university and his life.

Both Delorme and Benjoe look forward to the stole’s public debut, hoping it will inspire other educational institutions to embrace similar traditions. Benjoe eagerly anticipates the stole’s appearance on stage, envisioning it as a source of inspiration for aspiring individuals to strive for significant roles in the future.
