“Good Samaritan Rescues Moose Stuck in Ice”

Clint Gottinger found himself unexpectedly rescuing a moose after spotting it in distress near his home in Kelvington, Sask. The tow truck owner, on his way to work, quickly shifted his focus to help the struggling animal that had fallen through some ice. Gottinger used a soft sling to pull the moose out, with the help of some neighbors who joined in the rescue efforts.

After successfully freeing the moose, Gottinger took it home to rest and warm up, where his wife greeted them with blankets. The moose, named “Rebel” after Gottinger’s towing company, gradually recovered under his care, even allowing him to give it some comforting scratches. By evening, the moose was standing on its own feet, and it stayed near the house until the following morning.

Dr. Ryan Brook from the University of Saskatchewan mentioned that the moose, though traumatized, has a good chance of recovery due to its young age and the favorable weather conditions. He advised that releasing the moose back into the wild should be done carefully, with the help of wildlife experts, to ensure its safety and prevent any potential risks. Overall, the moose, now dubbed “Rebel,” has a positive prognosis for a successful recovery.
