“Canadian Speed Skater Valerie Maltais Sweeps Silver Medals at World Cup”

Canadian speed skater Valerie Maltais secured two silver medals on the last day of competition at the World Cup. Maltais, hailing from Saguenay, Quebec, clinched second place in the women’s mass start event with a time of 8 minutes 25.62 seconds. The gold went to Mia Manganello of the United States (8:25.57), while Ji-Woo Park of South Korea (9:01.80) took the bronze.

In the women’s team pursuit, Maltais, alongside Ivanie Blondin and Isabelle Weidemann, both from Ottawa, claimed the silver medal with a time of 2:52.40. Japan secured the gold with a time of 2:52.13, and the American team settled for bronze with a time of 2:54.01.

Antoine Gelinas-Beaulieu from Sherbrooke, Quebec, captured a bronze medal in the men’s mass start event, posting a time of 7:40.31. He was outpaced only by Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands (7:39.20) and Felix Maly of Germany (7:40.17).

The World Cup event in Salt Lake City witnessed impressive performances from the Canadian athletes, with Maltais shining in the women’s events and Gelinas-Beaulieu showcasing his skills in the men’s competition.
