Iran’s Energy Attacks Escalate, Global Fuel Prices Surge

Iran has escalated its assaults on energy infrastructure in Gulf Arab nations, targeting a Saudi refinery on the Red Sea and igniting Qatari liquefied natural gas facilities and two Kuwaiti oil refineries in retaliation for an Israeli strike on its primary natural gas field. This development has significantly heightened tensions in the Middle East conflict, leading to a surge in global fuel prices.

In response to the attacks, U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that Israel would refrain from further strikes on the South Pars gas field but warned of potential retaliation if Iran continued targeting Qatar’s energy facilities. Trump expressed concerns about the destructive implications of escalating violence on Iran’s future.

Incidents on Thursday included a ship fire off the coast of the United Arab Emirates and damage to another vessel near Qatar, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by Iran’s control over the vital shipping route of the Strait of Hormuz.

Saudi Arabia diverted oil shipments to the Red Sea to bypass the strait, but Iran’s drone strike on the SAMREF refinery in Yanbu raised security concerns about this alternative route. Qatar reported extinguishing a fire at a major LNG facility following Iranian missile attacks that caused substantial damage.

Authorities in Kuwait confirmed a drone attack on the Mina Al-Ahmadi refinery, resulting in a blaze but no casualties. Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi had to halt operations at its Habshan gas facility and Bab field due to Iran’s aggressive actions, which were condemned by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The conflict has severely impacted the energy sector, with Brent crude oil prices surpassing $110 per barrel in morning trading. The attacks have disrupted energy supplies and raised concerns about potential long-term consequences for regional stability.

The situation remains volatile, with various nations denouncing the Iranian aggression, and fears of further escalation persist. The ongoing conflict has led to casualties, displacement, and significant disruptions in the region’s energy infrastructure, posing a grave threat to global energy security.
