“Canada, India, Australia Announce Tech Pact at G20”

Prime Minister Mark Carney has initiated a collaboration between Canada, India, and Australia on cutting-edge technologies during the G20 summit in South Africa. The trilateral pact aims to foster cooperation among the three democratic nations in diversifying supply chains, promoting clean energy usage, and advancing the adoption of artificial intelligence.

This move signifies Canada’s effort to strengthen ties with India following a period of tension, primarily related to allegations by the RCMP linking New Delhi to the murder and extortion of Canadian citizens. In a joint statement issued on Saturday, the trio announced the establishment of the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation Partnership (ACITI).

The partnership, as outlined in the statement, will leverage the inherent strengths of the participating countries, with a focus on driving innovation in green energy and establishing resilient supply chains, particularly in critical minerals. Additionally, the collaboration will explore the development and widespread integration of artificial intelligence to enhance the quality of life for their citizens.

As per the statement, officials from the three countries have agreed to convene in the first quarter of 2026 to propel the initiative forward. Carney is currently in Johannesburg for the G20 summit, where most leaders have endorsed a collective declaration, despite a boycott by the United States. This declaration addresses critical issues such as climate change, women’s rights, and the situation in the Middle East, areas which the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump had resisted at various points throughout the year.
