Mike O’Shea, a prominent figure in CFL coaching, has been confirmed to continue leading the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The 55-year-old, recognized as a two-time CFL Coach of the Year and six-time Grey Cup champion, is set to embark on his 12th season as the head coach for the team in 2026.
Under O’Shea’s guidance, Winnipeg has maintained an impressive playoff streak of nine consecutive seasons. The team also showcased a remarkable performance by appearing in five consecutive Grey Cup finals from 2019 to 2024, emerging victorious in the first two.
The decision for O’Shea’s return follows the expiration of his contract, coinciding with the Toronto Argonauts’ search for a new head coach after Ryan Dinwiddie’s departure to assume the role of coach and general manager for the Ottawa Redblacks.
Hailing from North Bay, Ontario, O’Shea previously served as a linebacker with the Argonauts during two separate stints, from 1996 to 1999 and 2001 to 2008. He later transitioned into coaching, holding the position of Toronto’s special teams coordinator from 2010 to 2013 before eventually taking on the head coaching role at the Bombers.
Additionally, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers confirmed the return of their general manager, Kyle Walters, whose contract was also due for renewal, ensuring continuity for the team into the upcoming season.
