Kelowna RCMP have reported the arrest and ongoing custody of an individual following a fire incident at Knox Mountain Park on Friday. Access to the park, situated in a residential region near the city’s downtown core, was restricted by the authorities upon the discovery of smoke and flames on the mountain slope. Police and the fire department were engaged in aiding hikers descending from the mountain. Despite concerns about high winds in the vicinity, firefighting crews successfully subdued the flames by 4:45 p.m. PT and maintained a presence at the scene.
Knox Mountain Park, described as Kelowna’s largest natural park, spans 3.85 square kilometers just north of downtown, as confirmed by the city. Controlled burning operations were conducted in the area on October 16.
