Detective Sergeant Ryan Boulay, who heads the holdup unit of York Regional Police (YRP) covering areas north of Toronto like Richmond Hill and Markham, expressed concern over the continuous occurrence of such crimes. He highlighted the trend expanding beyond York Region to encompass the Greater Toronto Area.
Security footage and cellphone recordings from the past two years depict masked robbers, predominantly young males in dark attire, raiding jewelry stores by smashing glass with hammers, looting jewelry, and fleeing in getaway vehicles before law enforcement intervention.
