Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County announced on Monday that Nancy Guthrie’s family has been ruled out as potential suspects in her abduction. The investigation into the disappearance of the mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie has now entered its third week.
According to Nanos, Guthrie’s family members, including all siblings and spouses, have been cooperative and supportive during the kidnapping inquiry. Nanos emphasized that any insinuation otherwise is not only inaccurate but also unkind. He stated that the Guthrie family are clearly victims in this situation.
Authorities revealed on Sunday that they had recovered a DNA sample from a glove discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s residence in Arizona. This glove seems to match the pair worn by a masked intruder captured on doorbell camera footage just before Guthrie was taken two weeks ago.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen on January 31 when her family dropped her off at her Tucson home after a dinner outing. Her relatives reported her missing the following day. Investigators have noted that due to her limited physical mobility, she could not have left her home unassisted, indicating she was likely taken against her will.
Despite the discovery of blood traces on her front porch confirmed to be hers through DNA testing, there has been no direct communication between the presumed captors and Guthrie’s family or law enforcement. It has been mentioned that Guthrie, who was in fragile health and relied on daily medication and a pacemaker, needed constant care.
Savannah Guthrie, along with her siblings Camron and Annie Guthrie, have made emotional appeals for their mother’s safe return and urged the public to assist in resolving the case. Sheriff Nanos stated that while there is no evidence of Nancy Guthrie’s well-being post-abduction, there is also no evidence of her demise, leading him to believe she may still be alive.
