A private elopement turned into a large wedding celebration aboard a B.C. Ferries ship on the northern coast of British Columbia, involving nearly 70 guests. Jordyn Sankey, 23, and Leslie Fox, 41, who work on the Northern Expedition route, initially had a rocky relationship. Sankey, a customer service attendant, and Fox, a third-class engineer, work closely on the ship during their shifts, which can last up to 18 hours while traveling between various stops.
Despite their initial dislike for each other, the couple eventually bonded over shared meals and coffee. Last April, while on a trip to Yellowstone National Park, they spontaneously decided to get married. Due to the overwhelming complexity of planning a traditional wedding with their large families, they opted for a small onboard ceremony to honor their relationship.
The couple decided to hold their wedding in the ship’s Aurora lounge, with the crew providing them with a cake, flowers, gifts, and a card. Although B.C. Ferries does not typically host weddings, they allowed this special occasion due to the couple’s unique connection to the vessel. The ceremony, originally planned with just two witnesses, grew unexpectedly when nearly all 70 crew members attended, turning it into a joyous and memorable event.
Sankey expressed her happiness at being surrounded by their “B.C. Ferries family” during the ceremony, which was described as short, sweet, and stress-free. The couple, now married, is eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first child in May.
