Rapper Rick Ross Arrested on Domestic Violence Charges

American rapper Rick Ross, whose legal name is William Roberts II, was taken into custody in Miami Beach on Thursday following accusations of battery linked to an alleged domestic violence episode, as per local authorities and The Associated Press. Ross faces one felony charge of battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor battery charge. Online court documents show that he was released on bail.

Accusations arose from an unidentified woman who reported to local authorities that Ross, with whom she resided, purportedly attacked her on Aug. 28. She claimed Ross accused her of infidelity and proceeded to physically assault her, including choking her with her shirt collar and slamming her against a wall. The incident was reported on Tuesday, leading to Ross turning himself in at the local police station on Thursday morning.

In an Instagram post from a car shared on Thursday, Ross vehemently proclaimed his innocence, denouncing the allegations as fabricated. Legal representatives for Ross issued a statement to CBC News asserting his innocence and confirming his plea of not guilty to both charges.

His defense team, comprised of attorneys Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, has urged the public, including his supporters and fans, to refrain from making premature judgments and to allow the legal system to proceed with the case.

Ross gained prominence as a rapper based in Miami during the 2000s, achieving success with his debut single “Hustlin'” in 2006 and later signing with Def Jam Records under Jay Z’s label. His first album, “Port of Miami,” debuted at the top spot on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2008, he established Maybach Music Group, signing artists such as Meek Mill and French Montana. The arraignment for Ross’s case is scheduled for Oct. 22.
