Western authorities have long criticized Moscow for engaging in disruptive activities across Europe to undermine support for Ukraine and sow instability. German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt highlighted the presence of familiar components in the drone used in the attack, linking it to previous Russian hybrid operations against Ukraine.
While Dobrindt suggested a high level of technical sophistication in the attack plan, he pointed out that execution was delegated to lower-level operatives. The government announced the closure of a Russian consulate in response to the incident, emphasizing the strain on bilateral relations.
Germany unveiled plans to intensify sanctions against Russia and enhance scrutiny on individuals entering the country from Russia. Additionally, measures will be taken to address the activities of suspected tankers transporting Russian oil in violation of sanctions. The Russian ambassador was summoned for discussions at the Foreign Ministry.
