Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed the release date of her sixth novel, “Only in Summer,” scheduled for May 18, 2027. This novel takes readers back to the familiar setting of Barry’s Bay, Ont., featured in her previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” and the town where she grew up. Fortune shared in a newsletter that she recently acquired a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling her long-held dream after selling her family lake house.
In “Only in Summer,” the protagonist Eleanor Florek, also known as Ellie, shares a similar aspiration. Ellie, the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s previous Barry’s Bay stories, has always desired to purchase a property in the area. When she finally manages to do so, Ellie is surprised to find out that the neighboring house is being torn down to make way for a grand mansion by its new owner.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, it’s anticipated that a hesitant romance will develop in this lakeside backdrop. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has a background as an editor for various publications. Her earlier works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, supported by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel to feature on the show. “Every Summer After” inspired the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After” and got renewed for a second season, while Netflix Canada is in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode show.
