Despite the ongoing conflict, both Russia and Ukraine deny intentionally targeting civilians in their attacks. The Ukrainian air force reported hitting Russia’s Ilsky and Syzran oil refineries in overnight attacks, causing fires at both locations. Additionally, in a retaliatory move, five individuals were wounded in Russia’s Krasnodar region following a Ukrainian drone attack.
Zelenskyy expressed the urgent need for increased support from Europe and America to end the Russian war, emphasizing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s reluctance to cease hostilities. The President, currently in Serbia for his first visit, highlighted the critical need for more air defense systems and resources to counter Russia’s aggressive missile production.
Despite the ongoing conflict, Ukraine faces a severe shortage of air defense missiles for U.S. Patriot systems, with only 29 out of 195 ballistic missiles intercepted in July. Although Ukrainian air defenses successfully downed 135 drones, intercepting ballistic missiles remains a challenge.
The attacks in the Kyiv region have severely impacted the local community, with multiple locations sustaining damages and casualties. In the village of Puhivka, about 30 kilometers from Kyiv, a private residence was set ablaze after Russian drones claimed the lives of a child and his grandparents. Fires were reported in three districts of Kyiv, resulting in damage to commercial premises and warehouses.
Furthermore, Russian forces claimed control over the settlement of Ivanivka in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, although independent verification of this report was not immediately available. The situation remains tense, with ongoing airstrikes and explosions causing fear and destruction in the region.
In a separate incident, a drone breached Bulgarian airspace from Romania and exploded near the village of Kardam without causing casualties or infrastructure damage. The Bulgarian defense ministry indicated that the drone was likely a Maya decoy drone, commonly used by the Ukrainian armed forces.
