Born in 1941 in Rochdale, England, Oddie pursued English literature at Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he also performed with the Cambridge Footlights comedy group alongside future comedy legends like John Cleese and Graham Chapman. His involvement in student productions paved the way for a career in London’s West End and on Broadway, diverting him from his initial plans of becoming an English teacher or bird observatory warden.
