“5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes off Vancouver Island Coast”

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake recently hit beneath the ocean off the coast of Vancouver Island. The seismic event occurred at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday, approximately 219 kilometers southwest of Port Hardy at the northern tip of Vancouver Island. The earthquake originated around 10 kilometers below the seabed, with authorities confirming no tsunami threat.

The epicenter of the earthquake is close to various significant Vancouver Island communities, such as Campbell River located 300 kilometers away and Port Alberni situated 330 kilometers away. The tremor was reportedly felt as far as Metro Vancouver, over 450 kilometers southeast of the epicenter, with reports of shaking also coming in from northern Vancouver Island.
