Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime secures a spot in the ATP Finals as one of the qualifiers. The fate of the Montreal native’s qualification depended on the outcome of the Hellenic Championship tennis final match between Novak Djokovic from Serbia and Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti. Djokovic emerged victorious with a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 win, claiming his 101st career ATP title and setting a new record of 72 titles on hard courts. Despite his victory, Djokovic opted out of the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, due to a shoulder injury.
Initially, Musetti needed a win to qualify over Auger-Aliassime but will now take Djokovic’s place at the event. The ATP Finals are scheduled to take place from Sunday to November 16, featuring players like Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, Italy’s Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz, and Ben Shelton from the United States, Alex de Minaur from Australia, and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
In his first group-stage match on Monday, Auger-Aliassime will compete against Sinner, the current world No. 1 player. The two players previously met in the Paris Open final, where Sinner triumphed with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory to reclaim the top ranking.
